Avinash got into athletics when he was in the Indian Army, where he initially participated in inter-army cross-country running and then switched to 3000m steeple chase. He began his ascension in Indian athletics in 2018, when he set a national record that had not been set in 37 years, clocking 8:29.80 at the National Open Championships.
